HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to congratulate John F. McDonough on being 
4the inspiration for and the first recipient of the John F. 
5McDonough Humanitarian Award, created by the Gala Committee of 
6St. Juliana Parish; and
  
 
7    WHEREAS, St. Juliana Parish includes 3,000 parishioners, a 
8vibrant CCD program, an active alumni organization, and a 
9school that recently earned the National Blue Ribbon for 
10Excellence in Education; the parish created an award to honor 
11those who have demonstrated significant leadership, moral 
12integrity, spiritual commitment to Catholic values, and 
13extraordinary leadership through  charitable giving; and
  
 
14    WHEREAS, John McDonough graduated from St. Juliana School 
15in 1967; after spending 24 years in many leadership positions 
16with the Chicago Cubs, he joined the Chicago Blackhawks as 
17President in 2007; he was named President and CEO in 2011; 
18under his guidance, the Blackhawks revitalized the team's 
19profile and re-energized its fan base; since he joined the 
20organization, the team won Stanley Cup titles in 2010, 2013, 
21and 2015; he always includes the Edison Park Community in his 
22successes, as he has noted the neighborhood has made him the 
23person he is today; and

1    WHEREAS, John McDonough is also a frequent lecturer at the 
2University of Notre Dame's Mendoza College of Business and at 
3Northwestern University; he serves as a sustaining board member 
4for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Illinois Board 
5and sits on the Athletic Advisory Board of Saint Mary's 
6University of Minnesota, the Special Olympics Illinois 
7Foundation Board, the Chicago Blackhawks Foundation Board of 
8Directors, the NHL Club Business Advisory Board, and the NHL 
9Board of Governors; therefore, be it
  
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 
11HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
12congratulate John F. McDonough on being the inspiration for and 
13the first recipient of the St. Juliana Parish John F. McDonough 
14Humanitarian Award; and be it further
  
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
16presented to John McDonough as an expression of our esteem and 
17respect.
