HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to recognize and congratulate Rebecca 
4Cartwright for her years of dedication and service to her 
5community as a Pokemon Video Game Championship (VGC) and 
6Trading Card Game (TCG) Tournament Organizer; and
  
 
7    WHEREAS, Rebecca Cartwright became involved in the Pokemon 
8community to support her two sons, Calum and Samuel 
9Bruce-Cartwright, who expressed interest in playing the games 
10and attending organized events and tournaments; and
  
 
11    WHEREAS, Rebecca Cartwright began hosting VGC tournaments, 
12and in 2014, created a Pokemon league for the Chicago area, the 
13Ace Trainers League; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Rebecca Cartwright continued to host tournaments 
15over the course of several years despite her progressing 
16disease and her son's waning interest; she has created a 
17positive community and atmosphere that has fostered many 
18friendships and memories; and
  
 
19    WHEREAS, Rebecca Cartwright established herself as a model 
20tournament organizer and was a mentor to new tournament 
21organizers, judges, and players; she encouraged players of all

1ages to work together; and
  
 
2    WHEREAS, At Rebecca Cartwright's tournaments, she always 
3encouraged and strived for a good Spirit of the Game; through 
4her experience in both sides of the game, she helped connect 
5both trading card game and video game players, opening their 
6eyes to other perspectives; and
  
 
7    WHEREAS, Rebecca Cartwright listened to the players and 
8applied the feedback she received and tried to be the best 
9tournament organizer she could be; she put forward a tremendous 
10effort and continually went above and beyond expectations to 
11make each tournament special and unique, such as applying 
12themes or bringing home-baked goods to the tournaments; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Rebecca Cartwright is an inspiring individual who 
14has made a difference and touched the lives of hundreds of 
15people through her tireless volunteer work as a Pokemon 
16tournament organizer; she has also made an extremely positive 
17impact on her community and State; therefore, be it
  
 
18    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 
19HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
20recognize and congratulate Rebecca Cartwright for all her 
21outstanding years of service as a Pokemon tournament organizer, 
22judge, advocate, and friend, and for her volunteer work on

1behalf of the Illinois VGC community; and be it further
  
 
2    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be

3presented to Rebecca Cartwright as a symbol of our respect and 
4esteem.
