2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 | | Representatives wish to recognize the hard work of Dr. Leotis |
4 | | Swopes, Superintendent of Thornton Township High School
|
5 | | District 205 and the strong foundation for success he has built |
6 | | in District 205; and |
7 | | WHEREAS, District 205 is driven to be student-centered to |
8 | | provide students with a quality educational
experience and more |
9 | | vocational opportunities; and
|
10 | | WHEREAS, District 205 runs on a strong mission and vision; |
11 | | it has teachers and staff who believe in
their mission and |
12 | | vision; and
|
13 | | WHEREAS, District 205 aims to teach students how to build |
14 | | resiliency; and
|
15 | | WHEREAS, District 205 aims to be one of the strongest |
16 | | curriculum-based districts in the State of Illinois by creating |
17 | | the most rigorous, challenging, and unparalleled curriculum |
18 | | designed to prepare students for a
competitive college and |
19 | | career life; and |
20 | | WHEREAS, The International Baccalaureate (IB) program |

1 | | helps prepare students to build a better world
through |
2 | | intercultural understanding and respect, and encourages |
3 | | students to think critically and
consider both their local and |
4 | | international environment; and |
5 | | WHEREAS, The Advancement Via Individual Determination |
6 | | (AVID) program is dedicated to helping students
be better |
7 | | prepared for college acceptance, by providing academic |
8 | | support, motivation, and
encouragement to students who are |
9 | | willing to work hard and have the desire to succeed in college; |
10 | | and
|
11 | | WHEREAS, Various partnerships with local businesses, |
12 | | schools, and organizations allow students to receive
hands-on |
13 | | training and exposure to real-life situations; and |
14 | | WHEREAS, District 205 presents students with the |
15 | | opportunity to make the career and life decisions that
are best |
16 | | suited for them, by taking them to visit colleges; and

17 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Swopes, in his three years of service in |
18 | | District 205, laid a strong foundation for success; there is
|
19 | | confidence that Dr. Nathaniel Cunningham will take the torch |
20 | | and continue to advance District 205; therefore, be it
|
21 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE |

1 | | HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
2 | | recognize the hard work of Dr. Leotis Swopes and the strong |

5 | | RESOLVED, That we stand with Thornton Township District 205 |
6 | | and the Board of Education as they relentlessly carry the torch |
7 | | for high-quality educational programs for the students and |
8 | | families of Thornton Township; and be it further |
9 | | RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be |
10 | | presented to Dr. Swopes and Thornton Township District 205.
