2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 | | Representatives wish to congratulate Gallatin County High |
4 | | School on winning the Worldwide Youth in Science and |
5 | | Engineering (WYSE) State Championship at the University of |
6 | | Illinois; and
|
7 | | WHEREAS, The Academic Challenge is an annual competition in |
8 | | which schools test at the regional, sectional, and state |
9 | | levels, with teams of 14 members; the competition consists of |
10 | | seven subjects: biology, chemistry, computer science, |
11 | | engineering, graphics, English, mathematics, and physics, with |
12 | | each student testing in two subjects; test material is drawn |
13 | | from senior-level high school and freshman-level college |
14 | | curricula; approximately 25 teams and more than 50 individuals |
15 | | competed, representing more than 50 high schools across |
16 | | Illinois; Gallatin County represented Southern Illinois in the |
17 | | 300 Division; and
|
18 | | WHEREAS, This is the third year that the Gallatin County |
19 | | team has won the state championship; the school has been |
20 | | represented at the state level for 18 years; individual medal |
21 | | winners from Gallatin County are Kiley Brown, fourth in biology |
22 | | and David Matthew, fifth in math; and
|

1 | | WHEREAS, This year, the Gallatin County WYSE Team also |
2 | | received first at the Regional Competition, hosted by |
3 | | Southeastern Illinois College, and placed first at the |
4 | | Sectional Competition, hosted by Southern Illinois University |
5 | | Carbondale; and
|
6 | | WHEREAS, The Gallatin County Varsity Team is coached by |
7 | | Lindsay Adams and Billyjoe Menard; and
|
8 | | WHEREAS, The Gallatin County Varsity Team members are |
9 | | Michaela Springer, Kenna Rife, Dylan Boggs, Nathan Shults, |
10 | | Dylan Garrison, Aaron Walters, David Matthews, Kiley Brown, |
11 | | Madison Raymer, Konner Gross, Abbie Keasler, Kallie Keasler, |
12 | | Blake Seely, and Jayde Pennington; and
|
13 | | WHEREAS, The Gallatin County Varsity Team serves as a model |
14 | | of hard work, integrity, and dedication for the people of the |
15 | | State; therefore, be it

16 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE |
17 | | HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
18 | | congratulate the Gallatin County Varsity Team on winning the |
19 | | Worldwide Youth in Science and Engineering State Championship |
20 | | for the third year, and we wish them many more successful |
