HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to congratulate Gallatin County High 
4School on winning the Worldwide Youth in Science and 
5Engineering (WYSE) State Championship at the University of 
6Illinois; and
  
 
7    WHEREAS, The Academic Challenge is an annual competition in 
8which schools test at the regional, sectional, and state 
9levels, with teams of 14 members; the competition consists of 
10seven subjects: biology, chemistry, computer science, 
11engineering, graphics, English, mathematics, and physics, with 
12each student testing in two subjects; test material is drawn 
13from senior-level high school and freshman-level college 
14curricula; approximately 25 teams and more than 50 individuals 
15competed, representing more than 50 high schools across 
16Illinois; Gallatin County represented Southern Illinois in the 
17300 Division; and
  
 
18    WHEREAS, This is the third year that the Gallatin County 
19team has won the state championship; the school has been 
20represented at the state level for 18 years; individual medal 
21winners from Gallatin County are Kiley Brown, fourth in biology 
22and David Matthew, fifth in math; and

1    WHEREAS,  This year, the Gallatin County WYSE Team also 
2received first at the Regional Competition, hosted by 
3Southeastern Illinois College, and placed first at the 
4Sectional Competition, hosted by Southern Illinois University 
5Carbondale; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, The Gallatin County Varsity Team is coached by 
7Lindsay Adams and Billyjoe Menard; and
  
 
8    WHEREAS, The Gallatin County Varsity Team members are 
9Michaela Springer, Kenna Rife, Dylan Boggs, Nathan Shults, 
10Dylan Garrison, Aaron Walters, David Matthews, Kiley Brown, 
11Madison Raymer, Konner Gross, Abbie Keasler, Kallie Keasler, 
12Blake Seely, and Jayde Pennington; and
  
 
13    WHEREAS, The Gallatin County Varsity Team serves as a model 
14of hard work, integrity, and dedication for the people of the 
15State; therefore, be it
  
 
16    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 
17HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
18congratulate the Gallatin County Varsity Team on winning the 
19Worldwide Youth in Science and Engineering State Championship 
20for the third year, and we wish them many more successful
