2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois General Assembly are |
3 | | honored to pay tribute to those who have dedicated a life of |
4 | | service to the citizens of Illinois; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, John Croessman was born in Blue Island and lived |
6 | | in Oak Lawn before moving to Du Quoin in 1955; he attended Du |
7 | | Quoin High School, where he won a state speech championship and |
8 | | served as an editor of the school newspaper, The Magnavox, |
9 | | before graduating in 1970; and
|
10 | | WHEREAS, John Croessman was hired at the Du Quoin Evening |
11 | | Call after graduating from Southern Illinois University |
12 | | Carbondale; he worked at the Du Quoin Evening Call for over 40 |
13 | | years, from 1974 until 2017, when a stroke unfortunately ended |
14 | | his tenure; most of his years there were spent as editor; his |
15 | | favorite memory was covering President Ronald Reagan's visit to |
16 | | the Krone Family Farms in the late 1980s; and

17 | | WHEREAS, John Croessman received the Outstanding Du Quoin |
18 | | Citizen of the Year Award in 2004; in 2013, he received the |
19 | | Outstanding Community Citizen Award from the Du Quoin District |
20 | | 300 Foundation for his service to the Du Quoin community as |
21 | | editor of the Du Quoin Evening Call; and
