nationally; and

4 | | WHEREAS, Alzheimer's disease is a neurodegenerative |
5 | | disease that causes a person to progressively lose
their memory |
6 | | and overall cognitive function over time; Alzheimer's robs a |
7 | | person of their short-term
and long-term memory and has a |
8 | | significant effect on their loved ones; and

9 | | WHEREAS, Alzheimer's disease is the most common form of |
10 | | dementia, accounting for 60 to 80%
of all dementia cases; |
11 | | dementia is a general term to describe a severe decline in |
12 | | mental ability that
interferes with daily life; and
|
13 | | WHEREAS, There are currently 5.7 million people living with |
14 | | Alzheimer's in the United States, and the
Alzheimer's |
15 | | Association projects that number to grow to 14 million by 2050; |
16 | | and |
17 | | WHEREAS, Alzheimer's disease is the 6th leading cause of |
18 | | death in the United States and kills more
people than breast |
19 | | cancer and prostate cancer combined; according to the |
20 | | Alzheimer's Association, one out of every three seniors dies of |
21 | | Alzheimer's disease; and |
