HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Ivy Lewis Parker of Chicago, who passed away on December 12, 2017; and

WHEREAS, Ivy Parker was born in the Ninth Ward of New Orleans, Louisiana to Ivy L. Davis and Effie Jones on December 31, 1950; in 1964, her family migrated to Chicago, where she attended John Marshall High School; following high school, she studied at Southern University and A&M College in Baton Rouge, Kennedy King College in Chicago, and Chicago State University; in 1977, while on a break from her collegiate studies, she married Richard Samuel Parker; she earned a degree in computer science and a minor in mathematics from Chicago State in 1984; and

WHEREAS, Ivy Parker was a math teacher in the Chicago Public Schools and taught at Phillips, Dunbar, Tesla, Harlan, Orr, and Nancy Jefferson; she retired in 2009 and then established a successful home tutoring business; in 2015, she became a managing partner and founder of Suite Little Feet Incorporated; and

WHEREAS, Ivy Parker was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Mary; and

WHEREAS, Ivy Parker is survived by her husband, Richard; her son, Jasand; her grandson, Ryan; her brothers, Stephen Sr. and David; her nieces, Deidra, Kelli, and Keri; her nephews, Stephen Jr., Samuel Jr., Sterling, Deon, and Austin; her sister-in-law, Sandy; and her cousins, Nona, JoAnn, Aisha, Dawud, and Rome; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Ivy Lewis Parker and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Ivy Parker as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
