| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION

| 2 | WHEREAS, The Chicago Access Corporation (also known as "CAN | ||||||
| 3 | TV" and "Chicago Access Network Television") was officially | ||||||
| 4 | incorporated as a not-for-profit entity under the laws of the | ||||||
| 5 | State of Illinois on April 25, 1983; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, The purposes for which CAN TV was organized were | ||||||
| 7 | to promote and develop maximum community involvement in, and | ||||||
| 8 | use of cable television for cultural, educational, health, | ||||||
| 9 | social service, civic, community, and other non-profit | ||||||
| 10 | purposes, and to administer the use of public access channels; | ||||||
| 11 | and
| ||||||
| 12 | WHEREAS, Included among those purposes were insuring | ||||||
| 13 | access to cable television channels and corresponding | ||||||
| 14 | facilities for Chicago residents, groups, and institutions, | ||||||
| 15 | providing a mechanism through which the city's non-commercial | ||||||
| 16 | institutions and organizations could effectively share their | ||||||
| 17 | educational, health care, and cultural resources with local | ||||||
| 18 | communities at-large, and advancing the interests of Chicago | ||||||
| 19 | residents in receiving a broad range and diversity of quality | ||||||
| 20 | programming which addressed their unique needs, interests and | ||||||
| 21 | potential; and | ||||||
| 22 | WHEREAS, Since the time of its founding, CAN TV has been an | ||||||

| |||||||
| 1 | invaluable resource to thousands upon thousands of | ||||||
| 2 | individuals, community organizations, educational groups, and | ||||||
| 3 | social service agencies which otherwise would have limited or | ||||||
| 4 | no access to media outlets controlled by commercial interests; | ||||||
| 5 | and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, CAN TV continues amid the vanguard of public | ||||||
| 7 | access centers nationwide, recognized for excellence in | ||||||
| 8 | providing multi-media training and resources to members of the | ||||||
| 9 | public who otherwise would lack the means and avenues to | ||||||
| 10 | communicate with and express themselves to a broader public | ||||||
| 11 | audience; and
| ||||||
| 12 | WHEREAS, CAN TV will observe and celebrate its 35th | ||||||
| 13 | anniversary on April 25, 2018; and
| ||||||
| 14 | WHEREAS, CAN TV remains passionately committed to | ||||||
| 15 | providing its resources and services to the citizens and | ||||||
| 16 | non-profits of Chicago for many years to come; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 17 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 18 | HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
| 19 | congratulate CAN TV on its 35th Anniversary on April 25; and be | ||||||
| 20 | it further

| 21 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||

| 1 | presented to CAN TV as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
