2 | | WHEREAS, It is fitting that the members of the Illinois |
3 | | House of Representatives honor
and recognize the sacrifices |
4 | | made by Illinois' most loyal public servants; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Pamela Sue "Pam" Knight was born in Dixon to Lloyd |
6 | | and Agnes Heaton on June 23, 1958; she married her devoted |
7 | | husband, Donavon "Don" Knight on
April 4, 1986 in Dixon and |
8 | | they raised one daughter, Jennifer; and
|
9 | | WHEREAS, Pam Knight began her career as a dedicated civil |
10 | | servant by working for both the
Lee County Sheriff's Office and |
11 | | the Ogle County Sheriff's office; and
|
12 | | WHEREAS, Pam Knight studied family social services at |
13 | | Northern Illinois University in
DeKalb, and later served as a |
14 | | welfare specialist for Lutheran Social Services for over 20
|
15 | | years; and |
16 | | WHEREAS, After her time at Lutheran Social Services, Pam |
17 | | Knight began working as a social
worker for the Illinois |
18 | | Department of Children and Family Services; and |
19 | | WHEREAS, It was during this time that Pam Knight gave her |
20 | | life to protect Illinois' most
vulnerable children; she was |

1 | | critically injured in an attempt to take a child into
|
2 | | protective custody and later died from her injuries, surrounded |
3 | | by her loving family; and |
4 | | WHEREAS, Pam Knight was a member of AFSCME Local 448 and |
5 | | was given a public service
award from AFSCME Council 31 at the |
6 | | union's 20th biennial convention; this award
reads, in part: |
7 | | "In recognition of exemplary dedication to the mission of child |
8 | | protection
and family support, for going above and beyond the |
9 | | call of duty, and for providing to all
Illinois citizens a |
10 | | powerful reminder of the vital work that public service |
11 | | employees
perform everyday"; and |
12 | | WHEREAS, In addition to her love of family, Pam Knight |
13 | | loved animals, especially her basset
hounds, Hoss and Dalilah; |
14 | | she also enjoyed rehabbing homes in her spare time; and
|
15 | | WHEREAS, Pam Knight exemplifies what it means to be a |
16 | | public servant and Illinois
will miss her contribution and |
17 | | devotion to the children of this State immensely; and
|
18 | | WHEREAS, Pam Knight is survived by her husband, Don Knight; |
19 | | her daughter, Jennfier (Paul)
Hollenback; her brother, Sidney |
20 | | "Sid" Heaton; her grandchildren, Kaitlin Burns and Cheyenne, |
21 | | Cleveland, Natalie, Zenobia, and Makenzie Hollenback; and her |
22 | | nieces and
nephews, Toby Masterman, Sherry Cook, Lori Heaton, |

1 | | and Dustin Heaton; therefore, be it
|
2 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE |
3 | | HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
4 | | mourn the loss of Pamela Sue "Pam" Knight, and extend our most |
5 | | sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who
knew |
6 | | and loved her; and be it further
|
7 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
8 | | presented to the family of Pam Knight as an expression of our |
9 | | deepest sympathy.
