2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Robert |
4 | | "Bob" "Lenny" Lehnhausen of Peoria, who passed away on March 5, |
5 | | 2018; and
|
6 | | WHEREAS, Robert Lehnhausen was born to Frank and Florence |
7 | | Lehnhausen on September 11, 1919; he attended the Spalding |
8 | | Institute, where he was senior manager of the athletic |
9 | | department; and
|
10 | | WHEREAS, Robert Lehnhausen was drafted into the United |
11 | | States Army in May of 1941; he volunteered for the Aviation |
12 | | Cadet Program and joined the 44th Bomb Group of the 8th Air |
13 | | Force; for the next 27 months, he served as a combat bomber |
14 | | pilot and squadron commander in Europe and North Africa; he was |
15 | | awarded numerous medals and recognitions, including the |
16 | | Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal, the Purple Heart, |
17 | | the Soldier's Medal, a European Theatre of Operations medal |
18 | | with nine campaign stars, and the French Croix de Guerre; he |
19 | | achieved the rank of Lt. Colonel, was discharged in 1946, and |
20 | | served in the Air Force Reserve until 1969; and |
21 | | WHEREAS, Robert Lehnhausen returned to Peoria and helped |
22 | | his father run the family drapery shop; he was elected to the |

1 | | Peoria City Council in 1953 and served as mayor from 1965 to |
2 | | 1969; he went on to head the Illinois Housing Authority and the |
3 | | Illinois Department of Local Government Affairs; in 1973, he |
4 | | became an officer at Peoria's First Federal Savings Bank, where |
5 | | he worked until he retired in 1985; and |
6 | | WHEREAS, Robert Lehnhausen turned his attention to the |
7 | | stock market over the last several decades of his life, |
8 | | learning as much as he could, refining his investment |
9 | | strategies, and passing along his knowledge; and |
10 | | WHEREAS, Robert Lehnhausen was an active member of St. |
11 | | Cecilia Parish, and later, St. Jude Parish; in 1995, Peoria |
12 | | Notre Dame High School awarded him with its Distinguished |
13 | | Alumnus of the Year award; and
|
14 | | WHEREAS, Robert Lehnhausen was preceded in death by his |
15 | | parents; his brother, Clark Lehnhausen; his infant son, Robert |
16 | | Lehnhausen; his daughter-in-law, Cathy (Shannon) Lehnhausen; |
17 | | and his grandson, Jacob Johnson; and
|
18 | | WHEREAS, Robert Lehnhausen is survived by his wife of 72 |
19 | | years, Elizabeth (Waugh); his children, Mary Jo Lehnhausen |
20 | | (Arun Pinto), Phillip (Teresa) Lehnhausen, Ann (Jack) |
21 | | Burtelow, Tom Lehnhausen, Kay (Scot) Ironside, Steven (Karen) |
22 | | Lehnhausen, and Dave Lehnhausen; his grandchildren, Navin |

10 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE |
11 | | HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
12 | | mourn the passing of Robert "Bob" "Lenny" Lehnhausen, and |
13 | | extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all |
14 | | who knew and loved him; and be it further

15 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
16 | | presented to the family of Robert Lehnhausen as an expression |
17 | | of our deepest sympathy.
