2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Ida Mae |
4 | | "Sister" Craig Harris, who passed away on February 16, 2018; |
5 | | and
|
6 | | WHEREAS, Ida Harris was born to Malinda and Pack Craig Sr. |
7 | | in Marion, Alabama and graduated from Lincoln High School; she |
8 | | moved to Chicago and attended Roosevelt University until she |
9 | | married Tommie Sr.; she later returned to college and graduated |
10 | | from East West University; and
|
11 | | WHEREAS, Ida Harris was a dedicated housewife and mother |
12 | | throughout her children's younger years; she then worked for |
13 | | the YMCA and the City of Chicago; she ended her career as |
14 | | Assistant to the Director of Human Resources, Circuit Court of |
15 | | Cook County Social Service Department after over 25 years; and |
16 | | WHEREAS, Ida Harris served her community for many years as |
17 | | an active member of the 8th Ward Regular Democratic |
18 | | Organization, where she served as precinct captain and was a |
19 | | member of the Women's Auxiliary; she was a member of the |
20 | | Chicago Area Chapter Lincolnites, where she served as vice |
21 | | president; and

1 | | WHEREAS, Ida Harris was a member of the Tabernacle |
2 | | Missionary Baptist Church for 64 years, where she was part of |
3 | | the choir, the board, and reader of the announcements; and |
4 | | WHEREAS, Ida Harris was a great cook and was known for her |
5 | | pound cakes and chicken salad; she was also known for her |
6 | | fashion style, particularly her hats; she pursued several |
7 | | interests which included obtaining pieces for her crystal |
8 | | collection, decorating her house, and planting flowers in her |
9 | | garden; and
|
10 | | WHEREAS, Ida Harris was preceded in death by her parents; |
11 | | four of her brothers; and her husband, Tommie Sr.; and
|
12 | | WHEREAS, Ida Harris is survived by her children, Darry |
13 | | (Lorraine), Larry (Sherry), Roy, Tommie Jr. (Sultry), |
14 | | Linda-Che'rie, and Michelle Ann (John); her siblings, Bertha |
15 | | (George), Dorothy (Terry), Pack (Jarnell), and Donald (Betty); |
16 | | her grandchildren, Arnice, Prince, Kristen, Jennifer, Loren, |
17 | | Corey, Megan, Danaya, Darry Jr., Larry Jr., Michael, and |
18 | | Adarius; four great-grandchildren; her sister-in-law, Dorothy; |
19 | | four nieces and five nephews; her Goddaughter, Roxy; and |
20 | | several very close friends and numerous other family, friends, |
21 | | and neighbors; therefore, be it

22 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE |

1 | | HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
2 | | mourn the passing of Ida Mae "Sister" Craig Harris, and extend |
3 | | our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who |
4 | | knew and loved her; and be it further

5 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
6 | | presented to the family of Ida Harris as an expression of our |
7 | | deepest sympathy.
