5 | | WHEREAS, Spelling bees help to promote literacy by |
6 | | providing children with a positive goal to achieve and a forum |
7 | | to display the fruits of their hard work; and

8 | | WHEREAS, In addition to improving spelling, spelling bees |
9 | | also aid children in learning concepts, improving |
10 | | comprehension, and developing study skills; and

11 | | WHEREAS, The benefits of spelling bees extend beyond |
12 | | language; and
|
13 | | WHEREAS, Students are required to spell words while in |
14 | | front of an audience; children also develop self confidence, |
15 | | communication and public speaking skills, and the ability to |
16 | | thrive under pressure; and
|
17 | | WHEREAS, Participating in a spelling bee teaches children |
18 | | lessons that can last a lifetime and can benefit even those who |
19 | | do not outlast all competitors; and
