2 | | WHEREAS, Most people don't realize how much food they throw |
3 | | away every day, including uneaten leftovers and spoiled |
4 | | produce; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Approximately 95% of the food thrown away ends up |
6 | | in landfills or combustion facilities; and
|
7 | | WHEREAS, In 2014, Americans disposed of more than 38 |
8 | | million tons of food waste; and
|
9 | | WHEREAS, The benefits of reducing wasted food include |
10 | | saving money, reducing methane emissions, and conserving |
11 | | energy and resources; and
|
12 | | WHEREAS, The State of Illinois has an interest in reducing |
13 | | wasted food at State-operated facilities; therefore, be it
|
14 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE |
15 | | HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that the |
16 | | Auditor General is directed in accordance with Section 3-2 of |
17 | | the Illinois State Auditing Act to conduct a performance audit |
18 | | of 3 State facility cafeterias to report on the amount of food |
19 | | that has been disposed of and make recommendations on serving |
20 | | and ordering that will reduce wasted food at State facilities; |
