2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of State |
4 | | Senator George P. Shadid, who passed away on February 3, 2018; |
5 | | and
|
6 | | WHEREAS, Senator Shadid was born in Clinton, Iowa to Edna |
7 | | Massad and Philip A Shadid on May 15, 1929; he married Lorraine |
8 | | K. Unes on May 30, 1953; and
|
9 | | WHEREAS, Senator Shadid became a Peoria Police Officer in |
10 | | 1953 and was promoted to lieutenant in 1976; he was elected |
11 | | Peoria County Sheriff in 1976; and |
12 | | WHEREAS, Senator Shadid served as the state senator from |
13 | | the 46th District of Illinois from 1993 to 2006, some of those |
14 | | years next to his seatmate then-State Senator Barack Obama, |
15 | | which led to a lifelong friendship; and |
16 | | WHEREAS, Senator Shadid listened to his constituents and |
17 | | was always there to offer a helping hand; he prided himself on |
18 | | voting the way he thought was best for his constituency and not |
19 | | along party lines; and |
20 | | WHEREAS, Senator Shadid always made time for his family |

1 | | throughout his career; he also was known for his interest in |
2 | | encouraging the good in people and channeling that good for a |
3 | | greater purpose; in that process, he felt free to dispense |
4 | | praise or discipline as needed; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Senator Shadid was proceeded in death by his son, |
6 | | George Shadid Jr.; and his siblings, Gladys Abraham, Louise |
7 | | Shadid, Joan Petit, Jeannette Harris, Mitchell Shadid, and |
8 | | William Shadid; and
|
9 | | WHEREAS, Senator Shadid is survived by his wife, Lorraine |
10 | | K. Unes; his son, Jim (Jane) Shadid; his daughter-in-law, Mikie |
11 | | Shadid; his grandchildren, James E. (Anne) Shadid, Joseph G. |
12 | | Shadid, Margaret L. Shadid, and Lauren E. Shadid; his sister, |
13 | | Pauline Unes; and his brother, Fred (Jean) Shadid; therefore, |
14 | | be it

15 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE |
16 | | HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
17 | | mourn the passing of State Senator George P. Shadid and extend |
18 | | our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who |
19 | | knew and loved him; and be it further

20 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
21 | | presented to the family of Senator Shadid as an expression of |
22 | | our deepest sympathy.
