HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to congratulate Christy Alexander on 
4being named the Front Line Forensic Nurse of the Year by the 
5International Association of Forensic Nurses; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, Christy Alexander has been in nursing for 33 years 
7and has worked at Presence St. Mary's Hospital in Kankakee, 
8Illinois since 1993; and
  
 
9    WHEREAS, Christy Alexander is a nurse with a special 
10mission; in 2010, while working in Pediatric Emergency Care, 
11she regularly encountered abused children and decided to look 
12into forensic nursing; and
  
 
13    WHEREAS, In 2012, Christy Alexander received her board 
14certification as a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE); she is 
15one of only 33 nurses in the State of Illinois certified to 
16work with adult victims of sexual violence and one of only a 
17dozen certified to work with children who have been sexually 
18assaulted; and
  
 
19    WHEREAS, Christy Alexander has a desire to increase the 
20number of SANE-certified nurses; in 2012, she founded the SANE 
21Program at Presence St. Mary's Hospital with the goal of

1helping victims of sexual assault regain control of their 
2lives; Presence St. Mary's has since added two additional SANE 
3nurses; and
  
 
4    WHEREAS, Christy Alexander sees 50 to 70 victims of sexual 
5assault per year, the vast majority of which are women; almost 
6half of her patients are children; and
  
 
7    WHEREAS, Christy Alexander will present at the 
8International Conference on Sexual Assault, Domestic Violence, 
9and Gender Bias in Chicago in April; and
  
 
10    WHEREAS, Christy Alexander was recommended for the award by 
11the state coordinator of SANE nurses, Jaclyn Rodriguez, and by 
12letters of recommendation from her peers; and
  
 
13    WHEREAS, Christy Alexander also works with the local Sexual 
14Assault Response Team, the Kankakee County Center Against 
15Sexual Assault, the Child Network, Kankakee Community College, 
16the Illinois State's Attorney's Office, and other health 
17professionals to learn how to better serve victims; and
  
 
18    WHEREAS, Christy Alexander is a graduate of Herscher High 
19School, Kankakee Community College, and Western Governor's 
20University in Utah; Christy and her husband, Jim, now live in 
21Chebanse, Illinois and have six children; therefore, be it

1    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 
2HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
3congratulate Christy Alexander on being named the Front Line 
4Forensic Nurse of the Year by the International Association of 
5Forensic Nurses; and be it further
  
 
6    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
7presented to Christy Alexander as an expression of our esteem 
8and respect.
