2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives wish to
recognize Takeda's 50th anniversary of | ||||||
4 | doing business in the United States and its
many contributions | ||||||
5 | to the State of Illinois; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Takeda is a pharmaceutical company focusing its | ||||||
7 | research and
development efforts on oncology, | ||||||
8 | gastroenterology, the central nervous system
therapeutic | ||||||
9 | areas, and vaccines; it was founded in Osaka, Japan in
1781 and | ||||||
10 | entered the United States in 1967; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Takeda's Deerfield corporate campus was built in | ||||||
12 | 2006 and serves as
the its commercial headquarters for its U.S. | ||||||
13 | Business Unit; the Deerfield
campus consists of three office | ||||||
14 | buildings and a separate child care facility, comprising
more | ||||||
15 | than 628,000 square feet; about 70% of its over 1,000
| ||||||
16 | Deerfield-based employees live close enough to the campus that | ||||||
17 | their commute is less
than 30 minutes; Takeda has announced its | ||||||
18 | plan to make a multi-million dollar
investment in renovations | ||||||
19 | and remodeling for its Deerfield facilities, expected to begin
| ||||||
20 | in 2017 and to be completed in 18 months; and
| ||||||
21 | WHEREAS, Takeda offers its employees an encouraging, | ||||||
22 | supportive
environment that inspires scientific rigor and |

1 | rewards creativity; employees can take
advantage of such | ||||||
2 | benefits as flexible and modified workweeks, award-winning | ||||||
3 | onsite

5 | WHEREAS, The upward business growth of Takeda's U.S. | ||||||
6 | Business Unit and its
established presence as one of the top | ||||||
7 | biopharmaceutical employers in Illinois has

8 | Takeda earning several national workplace awards; the Chicago | ||||||
9 | Tribune
listed its Deerfield campus among Chicago's Top 100 | ||||||
10 | Workplaces for four
consecutive years; Working Mother Magazine | ||||||
11 | named Takeda one of its 100 Best
Companies for five years in a | ||||||
12 | row based on the its leadership in creating
progressive | ||||||
13 | programs for its workforce in the area of advancement of women,
| ||||||
14 | flexibility, childcare, and paid parental leave; in 2017, the | ||||||
15 | Illinois Committee of the
Employer Support of the Guard and | ||||||
16 | Reserve (ESGR) awarded Takeda the Pro Patria Award, the highest | ||||||
17 | recognition given by the U.S. Government to an employer who
| ||||||
18 | demonstrates exceptional support for national defense by | ||||||
19 | adopting personnel policies
that make it easier for employees | ||||||
20 | to participate in the National Guard and Reserve; and | ||||||
21 | WHEREAS, Takeda espouses the corporate philosophy of | ||||||
22 | "Takeda-ism"
(Integrity, Fairness, Honesty, and Perseverance), | ||||||
23 | and is committed to being a good
corporate citizen; it | ||||||
24 | undertakes a wide range of philanthropic programs that

1 | Illinois communities; since 2011, it has donated over $500,000 | ||||||
2 | to nonprofits
in Deerfield and the surrounding areas as part of | ||||||
3 | its annual corporate giving fundraiser, Takeda Cares Day; | ||||||
4 | Takeda also contributes more than $1 million in additional | ||||||
5 | funds to
local and regional nonprofits annually and encourages | ||||||
6 | employee giving through the
Matching Gifts Program, which | ||||||
7 | matches each employee's charitable donations up to

17 | Bannockburn Riverwoods High
School seniors with an interest in | ||||||
18 | pursuing higher education in science; since 2011,
it has | ||||||
19 | provided Chicago Public Schools Student Science Fair Student | ||||||
20 | Scholarships
to high school students with a focus on health | ||||||
21 | sciences; for over 10 years, Takeda
has provided scholarships | ||||||
22 | to a select group of science and medical research postgraduate
| ||||||
23 | students from Chicago area universities; and | ||||||
24 | WHEREAS, Takeda is deeply committed to environmental |
| |||||||
| |||||||
1 | responsibility; its
Deerfield campus office buildings are | ||||||
2 | Leadership In Energy and Environmental Design
(LEED) | ||||||
3 | certified, and have earned the prestigious Energy Star | ||||||
4 | certification from the
Environmental Protection Agency for | ||||||
5 | recognition as energy-efficient top performing
buildings; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Takeda believes all patients should have access to | ||||||
7 | medications
prescribed by their healthcare providers; the | ||||||
8 | Takeda Help at Hand patient assistance
program, founded in | ||||||
9 | 2008, has provided more than one million prescriptions to more
| ||||||
10 | than 200,000 patients in the United States who are uninsured or | ||||||
11 | underinsured and need
help accessing their medications; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, For the past 50 years, Takeda employees have been | ||||||
13 | proud of what
they do to help patients and their communities in | ||||||
14 | the United States; therefore, be it
| ||||||
15 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
16 | HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
17 | recognize Takeda's golden
anniversary doing business in the | ||||||
18 | United States, and we wish it many more years of
success; and | ||||||
19 | be it further
