2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives wish to congratulate Home
Sweet Home | ||||||
4 | Ministries in Bloomington on the occasion of its centennial | ||||||
5 | anniversary; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Home Sweet Home Ministries was founded on November | ||||||
7 | 25, 1917 by Billy Shelper, a
local business person who felt | ||||||
8 | called to minister to people in need in Bloomington; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, The first activity of Home Sweet Home was an open | ||||||
10 | invitation for all to enjoy a
Thanksgiving dinner and Home | ||||||
11 | Sweet Home has continued that tradition ever since; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Home Sweet Home Ministries has provided temporary | ||||||
13 | shelter to thousands of
homeless men, women, and children and | ||||||
14 | has provided hundreds of thousands of meals to
people within | ||||||
15 | the community; and | ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, Home Sweet Home Ministries has joined with the | ||||||
17 | Community Health Care Clinic,
the McLean County Health | ||||||
18 | Department, the McLean County Center for Human Services, and | ||||||
19 | State
Farm Bank to make the Mobile Health Project available to | ||||||
20 | adults within the community through
regularly scheduled mobile | ||||||
21 | health clinics; and |

1 | WHEREAS, The Bread for Life Food Co-op program operated by | ||||||
2 | Home Sweet Home Ministries recognizes the dignity,
worth, and | ||||||
3 | capability of each co-op member by engaging them in the process | ||||||
4 | of earning and
receiving healthy food to address food | ||||||
5 | insecurity and serves as a model for other organizations
and | ||||||
6 | communities that want to establish healthy means for addressing | ||||||
7 | food insecurity; and | ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Home Sweet Home Ministries is committed to | ||||||
9 | assisting low-income individuals in
managing their finances | ||||||
10 | through participation in Faith and Finances classes and | ||||||
11 | provides
training of trainers to other organizations so that | ||||||
12 | the model can be replicated; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Home Sweet Home Ministries is the only family | ||||||
14 | shelter in the Bloomington area and
utilizes a model of trauma | ||||||
15 | informed care to respond to the trauma that homeless children | ||||||
16 | and
adults have experienced; and
| ||||||
17 | WHEREAS, Home Sweet Home Ministries offers opportunities | ||||||
18 | to several thousand volunteers
every year and is a work site | ||||||
19 | for hundreds of individuals who perform community service,
| ||||||
20 | providing them with meaningful ways to serve their neighbors | ||||||
21 | and their community; therefore, be it

1 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
2 | HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
3 | recognize Home Sweet Home Ministries on its centennial | ||||||
4 | anniversary,
and we wish it many more successful years; and be | ||||||
5 | it further

6 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
7 | presented to Home Sweet Home Ministries.
