2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives wish to recognize Michelle Germanson, O.P. and | ||||||
4 | her accomplishments as president of Trinity High School in | ||||||
5 | River Forest; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Sister Michelle has ministered through education | ||||||
7 | and leadership roles in Colorado and Illinois; she served as | ||||||
8 | the Dean of Students at Dominican University before assuming | ||||||
9 | the challenge of running Trinity High School, an all-girl | ||||||
10 | college preparatory high school founded by the Dominican | ||||||
11 | Sisters of Sinsinawa, Wisconsin; she has been president of | ||||||
12 | Trinity since 1992, and she celebrated her 50th Golden Jubilee | ||||||
13 | as a Sinsinawa Dominican Sister in 2015; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, Sister Michelle's passion and unwavering belief | ||||||
15 | in God made her instrumental in maintaining Trinity's all-girl | ||||||
16 | status, despite heavy pressure to become co-ed; she instituted | ||||||
17 | full block scheduling and the prestigious International | ||||||
18 | Baccalaureate Programme; Trinity was the second school in | ||||||
19 | Illinois, and the first Catholic school, to embrace such a bold | ||||||
20 | endeavor; Newsweek later recognized the program as one of the | ||||||
21 | best in the United States; and
| ||||||
22 | WHEREAS, Sister Michelle recognized the empowerment |
| |||||||
| |||||||
1 | students gain from a Trinity education; she oversaw the | ||||||
2 | construction of a technology center, a major athletic facility, | ||||||
3 | and a state-of-the-art health and fitness center; she ensured | ||||||
4 | that every girl had the tools necessary to achieve her highest | ||||||
5 | potential; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Sister Michelle has served on the Board of | ||||||
7 | Dominican University and on the Board of St. Mary's College in | ||||||
8 | Notre Dame, Indiana; she was awarded the Senior Citizen's | ||||||
9 | Center of Oak Park-River Forest Ulyssean Award for her | ||||||
10 | demonstrated commitment to strengthening the community and | ||||||
11 | educating its members and their children; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Sister Michelle's commitment to Trinity is as | ||||||
13 | strong now as it was her first day, and she is looking forward | ||||||
14 | to celebrating Trinity's Centennial Celebration in 2017; | ||||||
15 | therefore, be it

16 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
17 | HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
18 | recognize Michelle Germanson, O.P. and thank her for her | ||||||
19 | dedication to Trinity and its students, who will move into | ||||||
20 | tomorrow positively influencing the world around them; and be | ||||||
21 | it further

22 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
