HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to congratulate Jacqueline Anne "Jackie" 
4Milner on the occasion of her 90th birthday on September 3, 
52017; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, Jacqueline Milner was born on September 2, 1927 in 
7Mount Penn, Pennsylvania; her mother named her Shirley Ann, but 
8after one look at her, her father said, "She's no Shirley Ann," 
9and changed her name to Jacqueline Ann, after the not-so-famous 
10actress Jacqueline White; when the hospital changed the name on 
11her birth certificate, they also changed her birth date to 
12September 3, and Jacqueline has been celebrating that day 
13since; and
  
 
14    WHEREAS, Jacqueline Landis began singing with local bands 
15and USO clubs at the age of 15, performing for soldiers in the 
16hotels on the Jersey Shore; and
  
 
17    WHEREAS, Jacqueline Landis graduated from Asbury Park High 
18School in 1945; after graduation, she began working for Charms 
19Candy Company; three years later, in 1948, she was booked as a 
20singer on a popular radio station, where she met her husband, 
21Gene Milner; Gene proposed on Valentine's Day, and they married 
22the following Saturday; they had two sons; and

1    WHEREAS, Jacqueline Milner, along with her husband and 
2sons, owned several successful radio stations in Michigan, 
3Florida, and Illinois; her career in radio gave her the 
4opportunity to befriend several well-known artists; she was 
5close friends with Louie Armstrong, and Chubby Checker 
6performed at her son's seventh birthday party; and
  
 
7    WHEREAS, Jacqueline Milner spoke at the National 
8Association of Broadcasters in 1974; her speech, "Put A Price 
9On Your Product," was well received; Jacqueline Milner was a 
10pioneer woman broadcaster and sales manager; therefore, be it
  
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 
12HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
13congratulate Jacqueline Ann "Jackie" Milner on her 90th 
14birthday on September 3, 2017, and we wish her many more 
15wonderful years; and be it further
  
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
17presented to Jacqueline Milner and her family as an expression 
18of our esteem and respect.
