2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives wish to
congratulate the Germantown Fire | ||||||
4 | Department on the occasion of
its 125th anniversary and | ||||||
5 | recognize its tradition of bravery
and dedication; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, The Germantown Fire Department was chartered on | ||||||
7 | May
2, 1892, almost 60 years after the first settlers founded | ||||||
8 | the
town of Germantown; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, The first 18 members of the department, which
| ||||||
10 | included a horse, were all volunteer and relied on
a | ||||||
11 | hand-operated pump for fighting fires; and | ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, The first motorized vehicle the department
| ||||||
13 | received was a 1919 Model-T truck which is now part of the
Hall | ||||||
14 | of Flame Fire Museum in Phoenix, Arizona; and | ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, The Germantown Fire Department has always relied
| ||||||
16 | on the donations and support of the local community, holding
| ||||||
17 | fundraisers, dances, and benefit meals; and | ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, This support has allowed the Germantown Fire | ||||||
19 | Department to
maintain a modern and well equipped force that is | ||||||
20 | often a leader
in adopting new firefighting technologies; and |

1 | WHEREAS, These technologies have included the first fire
| ||||||
2 | department radio system in the county, the first fire | ||||||
3 | department in the region to adopt an automated external | ||||||
4 | defibrillator, and the first department in the county to adopt | ||||||
5 | a "jaws of
life" rescue tool; and | ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, In 1952, the Germantown Rural Fire Protection
| ||||||
7 | District was formed to provide a stable
funding source for the | ||||||
8 | Germantown Fire Department, though the department still relies | ||||||
9 | on the generosity of the local community to supplement
its | ||||||
10 | funding; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, In 2002, the Germantown Fire Department formed the | ||||||
12 | Explorer Post to
educate local youth about fire and rescue | ||||||
13 | services; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, Currently the Germantown Fire Department has 35 | ||||||
15 | members and six
firefighting and rescue vehicles; it responds | ||||||
16 | to 110 calls per
year; and
| ||||||
17 | WHEREAS, The Germantown Fire Department maintains its | ||||||
18 | 125-year tradition of sacrifice, dedication, and a
commitment | ||||||
19 | to the proud citizens of Germantown; therefore, be it
| ||||||
20 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE |

1 | HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
| ||||||
2 | congratulate the Germantown Fire Department on its 125th | ||||||
3 | anniversary and we wish it 125 more
years of continued | ||||||
4 | operation and dedication to the local
community; and be it | ||||||
5 | further
| ||||||
6 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
7 | presented
to the Germantown Fire Department as a symbol of our | ||||||
8 | esteem and
respect.
