| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives wish to
congratulate Tom Shaw on the occasion |
| 4 | | of his retirement after 47 years
as a successful businessman; |
| 5 | | and
|
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Tom Shaw began his business career working for |
| 7 | | Dixon
Telegraph in 1970; by 1975, he became the General Manager |
| 8 | | of Dixon
Telegraph, and in 1986, he was named President and CEO |
| 9 | | of Shaw
Newspapers; and
|
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Tom Shaw has had an esteemed career both within |
| 11 | | the confines
of Shaw Media, and out; he was a member of the |
| 12 | | Inland Press
Association, where he was President from 2008 to |
| 13 | | 2009, and Chairman of
the Board of Directors from 2008 to 2009; |
| 14 | | he was a member of the Board
of Directors for PAGE from 1997 to |
| 15 | | 2015, and Director for AMCORE Bank
from 1976 to 2002; he was |
| 16 | | the Director of Midland States
Bank from 2012 to 2017, and a |
| 17 | | member of several of their committees
concurrently; and
|
| 18 | | WHEREAS, Tom Shaw was the Lee
County Republican Central |
| 19 | | Committee Chairman in 1990; he was the
Republican National |
| 20 | | Convention alternate delegate in both 1980 and
1984; he was the |
| 21 | | Illinois State Republican Convention delegate
in 1990 and was |
| 22 | | the President of the Dixon Family YMCA for six years; he was |
|

| 1 | | both a member and President of the Dixon Rural Fire
Protection |
| 2 | | District board and the KSB Hospital Foundation; and
|
| 3 | | WHEREAS, Tom Shaw has been honored with multiple awards |
| 4 | | over the
course of his career, including being named "Who's Who |
| 5 | | in the Midwest"
in 1989, and "Who's Who in America" from 1993 |
| 6 | | to 2017; he was named
"Outstanding Young Man of America" in |
| 7 | | 1979; in 2009, he was given the
Reagan Trail Days Legacy Award; |
| 8 | | in 2012 and 2016, he was gifted
awards from the Inland Press |
| 9 | | Association and in 2017, he was honored
with a Distinguished |
| 10 | | Service Award by the Illinois Press Association; and
|
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Tom Shaw is a true family man; he is happily |
| 12 | | married to his
wife, Tammy; they have six children, J. Tom, |
| 13 | | Ben, Peter,
Kate, Mary, and Kylie; nine grandchildren; and 20 |
| 14 | | foster
children; therefore, be it

| 15 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE |
| 16 | | HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
| 17 | | congratulate Tom Shaw on his retirement as CEO of Shaw Media, |
| 18 | | and we wish him the best in all his future endeavors; and be it |
| 19 | | further
|
| 20 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 21 | | presented to Tom
Shaw and his family as an expression of our |
| 22 | | esteem and respect.
