2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 | | Representatives wish to congratulate Dr. Sherry Eagle on the |
4 | | occasion of her retirement as Executive Director of the |
5 | | Institute for Collaboration at Aurora University; and
|
6 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Sherry Eagle began her career in education as |
7 | | a third-grade teacher at Caroline Sibley Elementary School in |
8 | | Calumet City; she spent 10 years as a reading specialist at |
9 | | Thornwood High School in South Holland before her transition to |
10 | | Aurora schools; during her time with Aurora West School |
11 | | District 129 she served as the Assistant Principal for |
12 | | Curriculum and Special Education, the Assistant Superintendent |
13 | | for Curriculum, and then 12 years as Superintendent of Schools; |
14 | | and
|
15 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Sherry Eagle became the Executive Director of |
16 | | the Institute for Collaboration at Aurora University in 2005; |
17 | | as Executive Director she has successfully lead the |
18 | | establishment of numerous far-reaching partnerships and |
19 | | collaborations across the greater Aurora community that have |
20 | | resulted in the development of community-wide programs |
21 | | designed to meet critical needs of children in Aurora; she |
22 | | collaborated in the development of partnerships between the |
23 | | corporate, not for profit, governmental, and education sectors |

1 | | in the Fox River Valley; and
|
2 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Sherry Eagle has been instrumental in |
3 | | implementing numerous programs which are producing significant |
4 | | results including the Mathematics and Science Education Center |
5 | | of Aurora University, that has created an alternative model for |
6 | | STEM education that includes the nationally acclaimed John C. |
7 | | Dunham STEM Partnership School, that serves third through |
8 | | eighth-graders and teachers from four Aurora school districts; |
9 | | the community-wide MyTime After School Program, that serves |
10 | | over 1,000 elementary and middle school students throughout |
11 | | Aurora; and the Healthy Living Council, a group of community |
12 | | leaders organized through the Institute that has offered |
13 | | city-wide programs to reduce childhood obesity through |
14 | | programs promoting wellness and health with the goal of making |
15 | | Kane County residents the healthiest in the State by 2020; and
|
16 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Sherry Eagle excelled in her studies at the |
17 | | University of Illinois-Chicago; she earned her Bachelor of Arts |
18 | | in Elementary Education in 1970, her Master of Studies in |
19 | | Reading Education and Curriculum Development in 1974, and her |
20 | | Certificate of Advanced Study in 1994, all with honors; she |
21 | | completed her Doctor of Education with Honors from Northern |
22 | | Illinois University in 1994; and
|
23 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Sherry Eagle has been recognized for her |

1 | | excellence in leadership throughout her career; during her |
2 | | tenure as Executive Director she received the 2006 University |
3 | | of Illinois Alumni Achievement Award, the 2005 Aurora Public |
4 | | Library Foundation Light of Learning Award, and the 2005 Quad |
5 | | County Urban League Award for Community Leadership; and |
6 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Sherry Eagle has served on numerous boards and |
7 | | commissions throughout her career; she currently serves as a |
8 | | member of the Communities in Schools Board of Aurora, a member |
9 | | of the Rush Copley/Fox Valley Heart Foundation Board, the |
10 | | Energizing Student Potential Advisory Board (NEED |
11 | | Project/Excelon Foundation, as a member of the Board of |
12 | | Trustees of Northeastern Illinois University; and as a member |
13 | | of the Illinois Board of Higher Education; and |
14 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Sherry Eagle has been published four times in |
15 | | peer-reviewed publications; therefore, be it

16 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE |
17 | | HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
18 | | congratulate Dr. Sherry Eagle on the occasion of her retirement |
19 | | as Executive Director of the Institute for Collaboration at |
20 | | Aurora University, and thank her for her career dedicated to |
21 | | the education of students in Illinois, and wish her a healthy |
22 | | and happy retirement; and be it further
