2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 | | Representatives wish to honor Chance the
Rapper for his |
4 | | charitable contributions to the Chicago Public School |
5 | | District; and
|
6 | | WHEREAS, Chance the Rapper, born Chancelor Johnathan |
7 | | Bennett, a Chicago native, and a
graduate of the Chicago Public |
8 | | Schools, has redefined the music industry by producing Grammy |
9 | | Award-winning
music; and
|
10 | | WHEREAS, Chance refuses to sell his music via a contract |
11 | | with a record company so that anyone can
access and listen to |
12 | | his music for free; and |
13 | | WHEREAS, Chance has not forgotten his Chicago roots by |
14 | | becoming active in combating gun
violence, homelessness, and |
15 | | racial inequities; and |
16 | | WHEREAS, Chance met with Governor Bruce Rauner in March of |
17 | | 2017 in an attempt to
discuss recently announced cuts to school |
18 | | funding; and |
19 | | WHEREAS, Chance decided to address the issue of school |
20 | | funding himself by donating $1,000,000 to the Chicago Public |

1 | | School District; and |
2 | | WHEREAS, The Chicago Bulls Organization followed the lead |
3 | | of Chance, by also donating $1,000,000 to the Chicago Public |
4 | | School District; and |
5 | | WHEREAS, Chance also donated $10,000 to nine Chicago Public
|
6 | | Schools each, including Hirsch Metropolitan High; and
|
7 | | WHEREAS, Chance has brought much-needed attention to the |
8 | | issue of school funding
inequities for the City of Chicago; and
|
9 | | WHEREAS, Chance will continue to make music, educate youth, |
10 | | and advocate for the issues he
cares about; and
|
11 | | WHEREAS, Chance is a role model for the Chicago community |
12 | | and the State of Illinois; therefore, be it
|
13 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE |
14 | | HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
15 | | honor Chance the Rapper
for his charitable donation to Chicago |
16 | | Public Schools, and we wish him the best as he continues
his |
17 | | musical career; and be it further

18 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
19 | | presented to Chance the Rapper as a symbol of our respect and |
