2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives wish to congratulate Doug Oberhelman
on the | ||||||
4 | occasion of his retirement as Chief Executive
Officer (CEO) of | ||||||
5 | Caterpillar, Inc. after a 41-year
career with Caterpillar | ||||||
6 | effective December 31, 2016; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Doug Oberhelman served as Chairman of the Board of | ||||||
8 | Directors and CEO of Caterpillar, Inc. from 2010 through 2016; | ||||||
9 | he will continue to serve Caterpillar, Inc. as
Executive | ||||||
10 | Chairman of the Board through March 31, 2017; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Doug Oberhelman received his bachelor's degree in | ||||||
12 | finance from Millikin University; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, During his tenure as Chairman and CEO, Doug | ||||||
14 | Oberhelman led Caterpillar, Inc. through accelerated
business | ||||||
15 | cycles, implementing cost-efficiencies, and lean manufacturing | ||||||
16 | to simplify and improve global
manufacturing and operations; | ||||||
17 | and | ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, Doug Oberhelman has led Caterpillar, Inc. to renew | ||||||
19 | its focus on customers and reinforced
its dedication to | ||||||
20 | quality, sustainability, and innovations critical to the | ||||||
21 | success of its employees,
customers, and dealers; and |

1 | WHEREAS, Doug Oberhelman joined the Caterpillar, Inc | ||||||
2 | Treasury Department in 1975 and worked in or led a
wide variety | ||||||
3 | of businesses across the company; he was elected a | ||||||
4 | Vice-President and Chief
Financial Officer in 1995; from 2002 | ||||||
5 | to 2010, he was a Group President with responsibility for
many | ||||||
6 | of Caterpillar's core businesses; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Over the course of his career at Caterpillar, Inc. | ||||||
8 | Doug Oberhelman lived in North America, South America, and | ||||||
9 | Asia,
and travelled extensively throughout the world; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Doug Oberhelman serves on the Board of Directors | ||||||
11 | of Exxon Mobil Corporation and is
immediate past Chairman of | ||||||
12 | the Business Roundtable and former Chair of the National | ||||||
13 | Association of
Manufacturers; he is Vice-President of the | ||||||
14 | Wetlands America Trust, a member of the Nature
Conservancy's | ||||||
15 | Latin America Conservation Council, and Chairman of the Board | ||||||
16 | of Trustees for the Easter
Seals Foundation of Central | ||||||
17 | Illinois; he previously served on the boards of Eli Lilly and | ||||||
18 | Company and
Ameren Corporation; therefore, be it
| ||||||
19 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
20 | HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
21 | congratulate Doug Oberhelman on his retirement as Chief | ||||||
22 | Executive Officer of Caterpillar, Inc. and we wish him the best |

2 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
