2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Carolyn |
4 | | Rush of Chicago; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Carolyn Rush was born in Memphis, Tennessee on May |
6 | | 27, 1949; she moved to Chicago at an early age; she graduated |
7 | | from Hirsch
High School and Roosevelt University in Chicago |
8 | | with high honors with a Bachelor of Arts in Organizational |
9 | | Leadership; and |
10 | | WHEREAS, Carolyn Rush served as Chairman of the Board of |
11 | | Directors of Beloved Community Family Services, an |
12 | | organization whose mission is to provide a network of |
13 | | compassionate services that promote the cultural, economic, |
14 | | and social well-being of youth and families in the Englewood |
15 | | and surrounding communities; and |
16 | | WHEREAS, Carolyn Rush's professional career includes four |
17 | | years of service as the creator and administrator of the |
18 | | Banking Development Program for the Treasurer of the State of |
19 | | Illinois; and
|
20 | | WHEREAS, Carolyn Rush worked as a community organizer, |
21 | | precinct captain, and political
strategist in many campaigns; |
|

1 | | she was instrumental in the civil rights movement, working to |
2 | | end discrimination
in housing and employment; and |
3 | | WHEREAS, Carolyn Rush was the longtime political advisor to |
4 | | her husband, U.S. Congressman Bobby Rush, and served as First |
5 | | Lady of the Beloved Community Church of God in Christ, a church |
6 | | founded by her husband; she also served the Church in a |
7 | | leadership capacity through her diligent work in the Church's |
8 | | Core Leadership Group; and |
9 | | WHEREAS, Carolyn Rush was an avid gardener and enjoyed |
10 | | antiquing and exploring her interest in vintage architecture; |
11 | | she loved to read and developed an interest in writing; and
|
12 | | WHEREAS, Carolyn Rush is survived by her husband of 36 |
13 | | years, U.S. Congressman Bobby Rush; six children; and 14 |
14 | | grandchildren; therefore, be it
|
15 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE |
16 | | HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
17 | | mourn the passing of Carolyn Rush, and extend our sincere |
18 | | condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved |
19 | | her; and be it further
