HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, In 1917, St. Benedict Parish began the construction on its current location in the North Center neighborhood of Chicago after outgrowing the small wooden building in which it was originally located; and

WHEREAS, St. Benedict Parish, which is home to nearly 1,300 Chicago families, has continued to thrive and grow over the years, adding a preparatory school, a senior outreach center, and hosting numerous community activities and events, including "BenFest", the longest running family festival on the north side; and

WHEREAS, St. Benedict Preparatory School currently educates 960 students from preschool to high school, providing them a high quality education rooted in the Catholic faith; and

WHEREAS, The impact of the St. Benedict Parish community in Chicago has been, and continues to be, strong and far-reaching; the surrounding neighborhood is commonly referred to as "St. Ben's"; and

WHEREAS, In many cases, several generations of families have belonged to St. Benedict Parish and have attended St. Benedict Preparatory School, thus becoming a cornerstone of the community for so many; and

WHEREAS, St. Benedict Parish and Preparatory School has a proud tradition of meeting the spiritual, physical, social, and economic needs of its neighbors, including hosting holiday dinners for those in need; and

WHEREAS, The faith, community involvement, and generosity of St. Benedict parishioners has had a tremendous impact on the community and the Parish continues to serve generations of Chicagoans; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate St. Benedict Parish and Preparatory School on its 100th anniversary and we wish it continued success in the future; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to St. Benedict Parish as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
