2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 | | Representatives wish to recognize Josephine Wade on the |
4 | | contributions that she has made to the betterment of her |
5 | | community; and

6 | | WHEREAS, At the age of 15, Josephine Wade made the decision |
7 | | to overcome poverty; she entered the
business world at the age |
8 | | of 21; for 33 years,
she has been a restaurateur and mortgage |
9 | | broker; in 1989, she
and her husband, Rupert Smith, opened |
10 | | Captain's Hard Times Dining on East 79th Street; in less than |
11 | | four months, the restaurant quickly outgrew the
building and |
12 | | was moved to its present location; and

13 | | WHEREAS, Josephine Wade is a member of Carter Temple CME |
14 | | Church; she is on the Board of Directors of the Albertina |
15 | | Walker Scholarship Foundation and is a member of the Community |
16 | | Advisory Board of Carver High School and the Advisory Board of |
17 | | Harold Washington College's Hospitality Program; she is a |
18 | | member of the National Association for the Advancement of |
19 | | Colored People, the Rainbow/Push Coalition, the Urban League, |
20 | | the National Council of Negro Women, Inc., the American |
21 | | Religious Connection of Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church, |
22 | | the National Prison Ministry, Women Empowered, and many others; |
