2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives wish to congratulate Dr. Roger Dean Herrin on | ||||||
4 | the occasion of his retirement from the Southern Illinois | ||||||
5 | University (SIU) Board of Trustees on January 12, 2017; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Dr. Herrin was appointed to the SIU Board of | ||||||
7 | Trustees on April 9, 2011; he served one year as Board | ||||||
8 | Chairman, and most recently served as Chairman of the Finance | ||||||
9 | Committee; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Dr. Herrin was born on January 30, 1937 in Hardin | ||||||
11 | County; he attended Cave in Rock Grade and High School, where | ||||||
12 | he was the 1955 salutatorian; he earned his Bachelor of Science | ||||||
13 | from Bethel College in McKenzie, Tennessee in 1960 and did | ||||||
14 | graduate work at DePaul University, Roosevelt University, | ||||||
15 | Elmhurst College, and Northwestern University; he earned his | ||||||
16 | Doctor of Podiatric Medicine from the Illinois College of | ||||||
17 | Podiatric Medicine in 1969, where he received the highest, and | ||||||
18 | last, Dr. L.R. McCain Award for outstanding proficiency in | ||||||
19 | surgical anatomy and surgery; and | ||||||
20 | WHEREAS, Dr. Herrin served as Chairman of the Science | ||||||
21 | Department and head basketball coach at LaGrange High School | ||||||
22 | from 1958 to 1963; he co-authored a textbook with Dr. Glen |

1 | Seaborg, Head of the Atomic Energy Commission from 1960 to 61; | ||||||
2 | he was one of the original members of the Illinois Health | ||||||
3 | Facilities Authority, where he served as Vice-Chairman; he also | ||||||
4 | served as Chairman of the Underwriters Committee from 1973-79; | ||||||
5 | and | ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Dr. Herrin retired from the practice of surgical | ||||||
7 | podiatry and sports medicine in Harrisburg; he served on the | ||||||
8 | staff of the Harrisburg Medical Center and Hardin County | ||||||
9 | General Hospital; he was instrumental in the formation of the | ||||||
10 | Harrisburg Medical Center; he was a past member of the Illinois | ||||||
11 | Health Care Reform Task Force; and | ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Dr. Herrin was President of RDK Management | ||||||
13 | Services, Inc. and CombBank, Inc.; and | ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, Dr. Herrin has been a guest lecturer at numerous | ||||||
15 | State and national conventions; he is a member of IPS, APA, and | ||||||
16 | numerous other State and national associations; he is a past | ||||||
17 | consultant at Vienna Correctional Center, the U.S. Forestry | ||||||
18 | Service, and the federal prison in Marion; therefore, be it
| ||||||
19 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
20 | HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
21 | congratulate Dr. Roger Dean Herrin on his retirement from the | ||||||
22 | Southern Illinois University Board of Trustees; and be it |
