| 2 | | WHEREAS, On July 26, 1990, the Americans with Disabilities |
| 3 | | Act was signed into law; and
|
| 4 | | WHEREAS, Nearly one in five people have a disability in the |
| 5 | | United States; and
|
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Disabilities can be considerably varied; they can |
| 7 | | be physical, cognitive, intellectual, mental, sensory, or |
| 8 | | developmental; they can be present at birth or occur during a |
| 9 | | person's lifetime; they can also be permanent or temporary; and
|
| 10 | | WHEREAS, An intellectual disability may mean difficulty |
| 11 | | communicating, learning, and retaining information; they |
| 12 | | include Down syndrome, Fragile X syndrome, Prader-Willi |
| 13 | | syndrome, and developmental delays; and |
| 14 | | WHEREAS, A physical disability may affect, either |
| 15 | | temporarily or permanently, a person's physical capacity and |
| 16 | | mobility; they include multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy, |
| 17 | | spina bifida, brain or spinal cord injury, epilepsy, and |
| 18 | | muscular dystrophy; and

| 19 | | WHEREAS, Sensory disabilities affect one or more senses; |
| 20 | | sight, hearing, smell, touch, taste, or spatial awareness; they |
