2 | WHEREAS, On January 17, 1917, the Effingham Merchants | ||||||
3 | Association was formed by a group of local business and civic | ||||||
4 | leaders to advance the business interests of the City of | ||||||
5 | Effingham; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, The name of the organization has changed over the | ||||||
7 | years from the Effingham Merchants Association, to the | ||||||
8 | Effingham Business Men's Association, to the Effingham Chamber | ||||||
9 | of Commerce, to the Greater Effingham Chamber of Commerce and | ||||||
10 | Industry, and was changed in 2012 to the Effingham County | ||||||
11 | Chamber of Commerce to better reflect its service to the needs | ||||||
12 | of businesses throughout Effingham County; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, The mission of the Effingham County Chamber of | ||||||
14 | Commerce is to protect, foster, and enhance the success of its | ||||||
15 | members and the community through focused and collaborative | ||||||
16 | efforts; and
| ||||||
17 | WHEREAS, In fulfilling that mission, the Effingham County | ||||||
18 | Chamber of Commerce identifies community needs, problems, and | ||||||
19 | opportunities and then develops programs that satisfy those | ||||||
20 | needs, solve those problems, and seize those opportunities; and
| ||||||
21 | WHEREAS, The Effingham County Chamber of Commerce works |

1 | diligently to support economic growth and to create business | ||||||
2 | opportunities; and
| ||||||
3 | WHEREAS, Throughout its history, the Chamber has played a | ||||||
4 | role in the growth of the Effingham County economy by | ||||||
5 | purchasing land and raising funds for industrial development, | ||||||
6 | and funding studies for the development of Lake Sara; it has | ||||||
7 | been in the forefront of community initiatives like the | ||||||
8 | Effingham Regional Career Academy, Effingham County Vision | ||||||
9 | 2020, Effingham County CEO Class, Effingham County 911, and | ||||||
10 | Trails Recreation Effingham County (TREC); and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, The Effingham County Chamber of Commerce serves | ||||||
12 | existing businesses by sponsoring approximately 150 events, | ||||||
13 | educational, and business-building activities each year, and | ||||||
14 | by encouraging new business startup and business expansion | ||||||
15 | assistance and programming; and
| ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, Chamber membership is open to businesses, | ||||||
17 | individuals, and organizations who desire to make Effingham | ||||||
18 | County a great place to live, work, grow, play, visit, prosper, | ||||||
19 | and raise a family; and
| ||||||
20 | WHEREAS, The Effingham County Chamber of Commerce is | ||||||
21 | celebrating 100 years of service to Effingham County businesses | ||||||
22 | and communities in 2017 with celebrations at the Annual |

1 | Business Recognition Gala, a summer celebration, and creating | ||||||
2 | opportunities for the business community to give back through a | ||||||
3 | 100 Service Project event; and
| ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, For the past 100 years, the Effingham County | ||||||
5 | Chamber of Commerce has proudly served local businesses and | ||||||
6 | Effingham County as a whole; therefore, be it
| ||||||
7 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
8 | HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
9 | commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Effingham County | ||||||
10 | Chamber of Commerce, and salute the organization for being a | ||||||
11 | friend and advocate for the business community of Effingham | ||||||
12 | County.
