Amends the Children with Disabilities Article of the School Code. Provides that, for the Chicago school district only, the State Board of Education must utilize a minimum of 3 full-time staff members when monitoring the school district's special education policies. Provides that the State Board must provide the staff with administrative and any other support necessary to carry out its duties. Repeals the provision on July 1, 2021. Effective immediately.

1 | | AN ACT concerning education.
|
2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
3 | | represented in the General Assembly:
|
4 | | Section 5. The School Code is amended by adding Section |
5 | | 14-17 as follows: |
6 | | (105 ILCS 5/14-17 new) |
7 | | Sec. 14-17. Special education policies; city with more than |
8 | | 500,000 inhabitants. |
9 | | (a) This Section applies only to school districts organized |
10 | | under Article 34 of this Code. |
11 | | (b) The State Board of Education must utilize a minimum of |
12 | | 3 full-time staff members when monitoring a school district's |
13 | | special education policies. The State Board must provide the |
14 | | staff with administrative and any other support necessary to |
15 | | carry out the staff's duties under this subsection (b). |
16 | | (c) This Section is repealed on July 1, 2021.

17 | | Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon |
18 | | becoming law.
