Amends the Environmental Protection Act. Requires the Environmental Protection Agency, in coordination with the Illinois Sustainable Technology Center, to make an assessment of available treatment technologies for reducing and removing compounds of emerging concern from wastewater treatment facilities, the statewide applicability of the treatment technologies, and the costs associated with the treatment technologies. Requires the Agency and Illinois Sustainable Technology Center to submit a report of findings from the assessment to the General Assembly by June 30, 2020. Defines "compounds of emerging concern".

2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
3 | | represented in the General Assembly:
|
4 | | Section 5. The Environmental Protection Act is amended by |
5 | | adding Section 19.11 as follows: |
6 | | (415 ILCS 5/19.11 new) |
7 | | Sec. 19.11. Compounds of emerging concern assessment. As |
8 | | used in this Section, "compounds of emerging concern" means |
9 | | pharmaceutical and personal care products, and endocrine |
10 | | disrupting compounds. |
11 | | The Agency, in coordination with the Illinois Sustainable |
12 | | Technology Center, shall make an assessment of available |
13 | | treatment technologies for reducing and removing compounds of |
14 | | emerging concern from wastewater treatment facilities, the |
15 | | statewide applicability of the treatment technologies, and the |
16 | | costs associated with the treatment technologies. The Agency |
17 | | and Illinois Sustainable Technology Center shall submit a |
18 | | report of findings from the assessment to the General Assembly |
19 | | by June 30, 2020.
