SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
105 ILCS 5/10-20.67 new
105 ILCS 5/34-18.60 new

    Amends the School Code. Provides that a school board may not implement a school closing if, within the preceding 10 years, another school within the same zip code of that school was subject to a school closing or 90% or more of the students at the school are classified as low-income students; defines "school closing". Effective January 1, 2019.

1    AN ACT concerning education.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The School Code is amended by adding Sections
510-20.67 and 34-18.60 as follows:
 
6    (105 ILCS 5/10-20.67 new)
7    Sec. 10-20.67. School closing prohibited.
8    (a) In this Section, "school closing" has the meaning given
9to that term under Section 34-200 of this Code.
10    (b) A school board may not implement a school closing if,
11within the preceding 10 years, another school within the same
12zip code of that school was subject to a school closing.
13    (c) A school board may not implement a school closing for a
14school in which 90% or more of the students are classified as
15low-income students.

17    Sec. 34-18.60. School closing prohibited.
18    (a) In this Section, "school closing" has the meaning given
19to that term under Section 34-200 of this Code.
20    (b) The board may not implement a school closing if, within

4    Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect January
51, 2019.
