Amends the School Code. Provides that State funds may not be used to fund a non-profit teacher training program that has (i) a 2-year residency requirement for a corps member of Teach for America and (ii) no requirements for formal teacher training prior to admitting an individual into the program. Effective July 1, 2018.

1 | | AN ACT concerning education.

2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
3 | | represented in the General Assembly:
|
4 | | Section 5. The School Code is amended by adding Section |
5 | | 22-85 as follows: |
6 | | (105 ILCS 5/22-85 new) |
7 | | Sec. 22-85. Non-profit teacher training program; State |
8 | | funds. State funds may not be used to fund a non-profit teacher |
9 | | training program that has (i) a 2-year residency requirement |
10 | | for a corps member of Teach for America and (ii) no |
11 | | requirements for formal teacher training prior to admitting an |
12 | | individual into the program. Nothing in this Section shall be |
13 | | construed to prevent State funding for an Alternative Educator |
14 | | Licensure Program for Teachers under Section 21B-50 of this |
15 | | Code.

16 | | Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect July 1, |
17 | | 2018.
