|
2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
3 | | represented in the General Assembly:
|
4 | | Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by changing |
5 | | Section 3-808 as follows:
|
6 | | (625 ILCS 5/3-808) (from Ch. 95 1/2, par. 3-808)
|
7 | | Sec. 3-808. Governmental and charitable vehicles; |
8 | | Registration fees.
|
9 | | (a) A registration fee of $10 per 2 year registration |
10 | | period
shall be paid by the owner in the following cases:
|
11 | | 1. Vehicles operated exclusively as a school bus for |
12 | | school purposes by
any school district or any religious or |
13 | | denominational institution, except
that such a school bus |
14 | | may be used by such a religious or denominational
|
15 | | institution for the transportation of persons to or from |
16 | | any of its official
activities.
|
17 | | 2. Vehicles operated exclusively in a high school |
18 | | driver training
program by any school district or school |
19 | | operated by a religious
institution.

20 | | 3. Rescue squad vehicles which are owned and operated |
21 | | by a corporation or association organized
and operated not |
22 | | for profit for the purpose of conducting such rescue
|

1 | | 4. Vehicles, used exclusively as school buses for any |
2 | | school district,
which are neither owned nor operated by |
3 | | such district.
|
4 | | 5. Charitable vehicles.
|
5 | | (b) Annual vehicle registration plates shall be issued, at |
6 | | no charge,
to the following:
|
7 | | 1. Medical transport vehicles owned and operated by the |
8 | | State of Illinois
or by any State agency financed by funds |
9 | | appropriated by the General Assembly.
|
10 | | 2. Medical transport vehicles operated by or for any |
11 | | county, township
or municipal corporation.
|
12 | | (c) Ceremonial plates. Upon payment of a registration fee |
13 | | of $98 per 2-year registration period, the Secretary of State |
14 | | shall issue
registration plates to vehicles operated |
15 | | exclusively for ceremonial purposes by
any not-for-profit |
16 | | veterans', fraternal, or civic organization. The Secretary
of |
17 | | State may prescribe that ceremonial vehicle registration |
18 | | plates be issued
for an indefinite term, that term to |
19 | | correspond to the term of registration
plates issued generally, |
20 | | as provided in Section 3-414.1.

21 | | All of the proceeds of the additional fees imposed by this |
22 | | amendatory Act of the 96th General Assembly shall be deposited |
23 | | into the Capital Projects Fund. |
24 | | (d) In any event, any vehicle registered under this Section |
25 | | used or
operated for purposes other than those herein |
26 | | prescribed shall be
subject to revocation, and in that event, |

1 | | the owner may be required to
properly register such vehicle |
2 | | under the provisions of this Code.
|
3 | | (e) As a prerequisite to registration under this Section, |
4 | | the Secretary
of State may require the vehicle owners listed in |
5 | | subsection (a) of this
Section who are exempt from federal |
6 | | income taxation under subsection (c) of
Section 501 of the |
7 | | Internal Revenue Code of 1986, as now or
hereafter amended, to |
8 | | submit to him a determination letter, ruling or other
written |
9 | | evidence of tax exempt status issued by the Internal Revenue |
10 | | Service.
The Secretary may accept a certified copy of the |
11 | | document issued by the
Internal Revenue Service as evidence of |
12 | | the exemption. The Secretary may
require documentation of |
13 | | eligibility under this Section to accompany an
application for |
14 | | registration.
|
15 | | (f) Special event plates. The Secretary of State may issue |
16 | | registration
plates in recognition or commemoration of special |
17 | | events which promote the
interests of Illinois citizens. These |
18 | | plates shall be valid for no more
than 60 days
prior to the |
19 | | date of expiration , except special event plates issued in |
20 | | commemoration of this State's bicentennial shall be valid |
21 | | during calendar year 2018 . The Secretary shall require the |
22 | | applicant
for such plates to pay for the costs of furnishing |
23 | | the plates.

24 | | Beginning July 1, 1991, all special event plates shall be |
25 | | recorded in the
Secretary of State's files for immediate |
26 | | identification.

1 | | The Secretary of State, upon issuing a new series of |
2 | | special event
plates, shall notify all law enforcement |
3 | | officials of the design
and other special features of the |
4 | | special plate series.
|
5 | | All special event plates shall indicate, in the lower right |
6 | | corner, the
date of expiration in characters no less than 1/2 |
7 | | inch high.
|

9 | | Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon |
10 | | becoming law.
