SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
5 ILCS 430/20-70

    Amends the State Officials and Employees Ethics Act. Provides that if an officer or employee objects to a request for information by an Executive Inspector General based on any applicable rights or protections under State or federal law, the officer or employee may seek resolution of the objection by the Executive Ethics Commission. Provides that if an officer or employee refuses or fails to provide information requested by an Executive Inspector General, the Executive Inspector General may notify the Executive Ethics Commission and seek an order compelling the officer or employee to produce the information requested by the Executive Inspector General.

1    AN ACT concerning government.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The State Officials and Employees Ethics Act is
5amended by changing Section 20-70 as follows:
 
6    (5 ILCS 430/20-70)
7    Sec. 20-70. Cooperation in investigations.
8    (a) It is the duty of every officer and employee under the
9jurisdiction of an Executive Inspector General, including any
10inspector general serving in any State agency under the
11jurisdiction of that Executive Inspector General, to cooperate
12with the Executive Inspector General and the Attorney General
13in any investigation undertaken pursuant to this Act. Failure
14to cooperate includes, but is not limited to, intentional
15omissions and knowing false statements. Failure to cooperate
16with an investigation of the Executive Inspector General or the
17Attorney General is grounds for disciplinary action, including
18dismissal. Nothing in this Section limits or alters a person's
19existing rights or protections under State or federal law.
20    (b) If an officer or employee objects to a request for
21information by an Executive Inspector General based on any
22applicable rights or protections under State or federal law,
23the officer or employee may seek resolution of the objection by
