SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
40 ILCS 5/1-113.18

    Amends the General Provisions Article of the Illinois Pension Code. Provides that for an elected or appointed trustee under the Downstate Police or Downstate Firefighter Article of the Code, fulfillment of certain trustee training requirements satisfies certain ethics training requirements. Effective immediately.

1    AN ACT concerning public employee benefits.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Illinois Pension Code is amended by changing
5Section 1-113.18 as follows:
 
6    (40 ILCS 5/1-113.18)
7    Sec. 1-113.18. Ethics training. All board members of a
8retirement system, pension fund, or investment board created
9under this Code must attend ethics training of at least 8 hours
10per year. The training required under this Section shall
11include training on ethics, fiduciary duty, and investment
12issues and any other curriculum that the board of the
13retirement system, pension fund, or investment board
14establishes as being important for the administration of the
15retirement system, pension fund, or investment board. The
16Supreme Court of Illinois shall be responsible for ethics
17training and curriculum for judges designated by the Court to
18serve as members of a retirement system, pension fund, or
19investment board. Each board shall annually certify its
20members' compliance with this Section and submit an annual
21certification to the Division of Insurance of the Department of
22Financial and Professional Regulation. Judges shall annually
23certify compliance with the ethics training requirement and

1shall submit an annual certification to the Chief Justice of
2the Supreme Court of Illinois. For an elected or appointed
3trustee under Article 3 or 4 of this Code, fulfillment of the
4requirements of Section 1-109.3 satisfies the requirements of
5this Section.

7    Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
8becoming law.
