AMENDMENT TO HOUSE BILL 4467

2    AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend House Bill 4467 as follows:
 
3on page 1, line 5, by changing "Section 55" to "Sections 55 and
460"; and
 
5on page 2, immediately below line 8, by inserting the
6following:
 
7    "(110 ILCS 947/60)
8    Sec. 60. Grants for dependents of Department of Corrections
9employees who are killed or who become a person with a
10permanent disability in the line of duty. Any spouse, natural
11child, legally adopted child, or child in the legal custody of
12an employee of the Department of Corrections who is assigned to
13a security position with the Department with responsibility for
14inmates of any correctional institution under the jurisdiction
15of the Department and who is killed or who becomes a person

1with a permanent disability with 90% to 100% disability in the
2line of duty is entitled to 8 semesters or 12 quarters of full
3payment of tuition and mandatory fees at any State-supported
4Illinois institution of higher learning for either full or
5part-time study, or the equivalent of 8 semesters or 12
6quarters of payment of tuition and mandatory fees at the rate
7established by the Commission for private institutions in the
8State of Illinois, provided the recipient is maintaining
9satisfactory academic progress. This benefit may be used for
10undergraduate or graduate study. Beneficiaries need not be
11Illinois residents at the time of enrollment in order to
12receive this grant. With respect to disabled employees of the
13Department of Corrections, natural children need not be born
14before the disability occurred in order to receive this grant.
15The benefits of this Section shall be administered by and paid
16out of funds available to the Commission and shall accrue to
17the bona fide applicant without the requirement of
18demonstrating financial need to qualify for those benefits.
