SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
720 ILCS 5/12-3.5  was 720 ILCS 5/12-6.3

    Amends the Criminal Code of 2012. Provides that the sentence for the offense of interfering with the report of domestic violence is a Class 4 felony (rather than a Class A misdemeanor).

1    AN ACT concerning criminal law.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Criminal Code of 2012 is amended by changing
5Section 12-3.5 as follows:
 
6    (720 ILCS 5/12-3.5)   (was 720 ILCS 5/12-6.3)
7    Sec. 12-3.5. Interfering with the reporting of domestic
8violence.
9    (a) A person commits interfering with the reporting of
10domestic violence when, after having committed an act of
11domestic violence, he or she knowingly prevents or attempts to
12prevent the victim of or a witness to the act of domestic
13violence from calling a 9-1-1 emergency telephone system,
14obtaining medical assistance, or making a report to any law
15enforcement official.
16    (b) In For the purposes of this Section:
17    "Domestic violence" shall have the meaning ascribed to it
18in Section 112A-3 of the Code of Criminal Procedure of 1963.
19    (c) Sentence. Interfering with the reporting of domestic
20violence is a Class 4 felony A misdemeanor.
