    Amends the Meat and Poultry Inspection Act. Exempts the sale, offer of sale, or transport of elk and bison meat imported from Canada from certain Class A misdemeanor provisions.

1    AN ACT concerning regulation.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Meat and Poultry Inspection Act is amended
5by changing Section 19 as follows:
 
6    (225 ILCS 650/19)  (from Ch. 56 1/2, par. 319)
7    Sec. 19. Criminal offenses.
8    A. Any person who forcibly assaults, resists, opposes,
9impedes, intimidates, or interferes with any person while
10engaged in or on account of the performance of his official
11duties under this Act shall be guilty of a Class A misdemeanor.
12    B. Any person, firm, or corporation, or any agent or
13employee of any person, firm, or corporation, who gives, pays,
14or offers, directly or indirectly, to any inspector or any
15other officer or employee of this State authorized to perform
16any of the duties prescribed by this Act or by the rules and
17regulations of the Director, any money or other thing of value,
18with intent to influence such inspector or other officer or
19employee of this State in the discharge of his duty, is guilty
20of a Class 4 felony.
21    B-5. Any inspector or other officer or employee of this
22State authorized to perform any of the duties prescribed by
23this Act who accepts any money, gift, or other thing of value

1from any person, firm, or corporation, or officers, agents, or
2employees thereof, given with intent to influence his official
3action, or who receives or accepts from any person, firm, or
4corporation any gift, money, or other thing of value given with
5any purpose of intent whatsoever, is guilty of a Class 4
6felony.
7    C. Any person violating any provision of this Act or any
8rule or regulation established hereunder, is guilty of a Class
9A misdemeanor.
10    D. Any person who sells or offers for sale or transports
11meat or poultry products that are unsound, unhealthful,
12unwholesome, adulterated, or otherwise unfit for human food or
13which have not been inspected and passed by Department,
14federal, or recognized municipal inspection, with the
15exception of bison and elk meat imported from Canada, knowing
16that such meat or poultry products are intended for human
17consumption, is guilty of a Class A misdemeanor.
