| 2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,

| 3 | | represented in the General Assembly:

| 4 | | Section 5. The Department of Public Health Powers and |
| 5 | | Duties Law of the
Civil Administrative Code of Illinois is |
| 6 | | amended by adding Section 2310-22 as follows:

| 7 | | (20 ILCS 2310/2310-22 new) |
| 8 | | Sec. 2310-22. Tracking food deserts. The Department shall |
| 9 | | provide an annual report to the General Assembly by December 31 |
| 10 | | of each year that identifies the locations of food deserts |
| 11 | | within the State and provides information about health issues |
| 12 | | associated with food deserts. If the annual report contains |
| 13 | | information from the federal government that identifies the |
| 14 | | locations of food deserts in the State and provides information |
| 15 | | on health issues associated with food deserts, then the |
| 16 | | requirements of this Section shall be satisfied. For the |
| 17 | | purposes of this Section, "food desert" means a location vapid |
| 18 | | of fresh fruit, vegetables, and other healthful whole foods, in |
| 19 | | part due to a lack of grocery stores, farmers' markets, or |
| 20 | | healthy food providers. |
