Amends the Civil Administrative Code Department of Agriculture Law. Provides that the Department of Agriculture shall identify and track geographical areas in this State that are food deserts. Provides that the Department shall notify respective municipal governmental bodies identified as food deserts and provide an annual report to the General Assembly detailing the locations of food deserts within the State and an analysis of health impacts on populations in locations identified in this State as food deserts. Defines "food desert".

| 3 | | represented in the General Assembly:

| 4 | | Section 5. The Department of Agriculture Law of the Civil |

Code of Illinois is amended by adding Section |
| 6 | | 205-48 as follows:

| 8 | | Sec. 205-48. Tracking food deserts. The Department shall |
| 9 | | identify and track geographical areas in this State that are |
| 10 | | food deserts. The Department shall notify respective municipal |
| 11 | | governmental bodies identified as food deserts and provide an |
| 12 | | annual report to the General Assembly detailing the locations |
| 13 | | of food deserts within the State and an analysis of health |
| 14 | | impacts on populations in locations identified as food deserts. |
| 15 | | For the purposes of this Section, "food desert" means a |
| 16 | | location vapid of fresh fruit, vegetables, and other healthful |
| 17 | | whole foods, in part due to a lack of grocery stores, farmers' |
| 18 | | markets, or healthy food providers.
