AMENDMENT TO HOUSE BILL 2987

2    AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend House Bill 2987 by replacing
3everything after the enacting clause with the following:
 
4    "Section 1. Short title. This Act may be cited as the State
5Agency Student Worker Opportunity Act.
 
6    Section 5. Definitions. As used in this Act:
7    "Formerly incarcerated youth" means an individual who has
8been sentenced to incarceration in, or the custody of, the
9Division of Adult Operations in the Department of Corrections
10and Rehabilitation, the Division of Juvenile Justice in the
11Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, or county jail
12and released from that incarceration or custody before the
13individual attained 21 years of age.
14    "Homeless youth" means an applicant up to 21 years of age,
15who has been verified as a homeless child or youth, as defined
16under the federal McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act.

1    "Qualified applicant" means an individual who: (1) is 21
2years of age or younger; (2) is qualified for the internship or
3student worker position; and (3) is or has been a dependent
4child in foster care, a homeless youth, or a formerly
5incarcerated youth.
6    "State agency" means all boards, commissions, agencies,
7institutions, authorities, bodies politic and corporate of the
8State created by or pursuant to the constitution or statute, of
9the executive branch of State government.
 
10    Section 10. Internships and student workers; transmit
11information.
12    (a) Whenever a State agency has a job opening for an intern
13or a student worker, that State agency shall notify the
14Department of Human Services, the Department of Juvenile
15Justice, and the Department of Children and Family Services.
16The Department of Human Services, the Department of Juvenile
17Justice, and the Department of Children and Family Services
18shall take steps to notify qualified applicants of the job
19opening.
20    (b) Each State agency shall keep records detailing the
21number of applications for internships and student worker
22positions received from the Department of Human Services, the
23Department of Juvenile Justice, and the Department of Children
24and Family Services as a result of the communication under
25subsection (a).".
