Amends the Fire Protection of Unprotected Area Act. Provides that if a property owner of an unprotected area refuses a request for annexation for fire protection, the State Fire Marshal shall assign the unprotected area coverage. Amends the Illinois Insurance Code. Provides that in order to obtain property insurance for property located in an unincorporated area of a county, the owner of the property must submit verification that the property has fire protection coverage by a fire protection jurisdiction. Effective January 1, 2018.

| 2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
| 3 | | represented in the General Assembly:

| 4 | | Section 5. The Fire Protection of Unprotected Area Act is |
| 5 | | amended by changing Section 3 as follows:
|

| 7 | | Sec. 3. Request for coverage. Upon written request to the |
| 8 | | Fire Marshal, from
registered voters or property owners of an |
| 9 | | unprotected area,
the Fire Marshal is authorized to contact |
| 10 | | with all
practicable speed fire protection jurisdictions near |
| 11 | | such unprotected
area, to seek to arrange for fire protection |
| 12 | | coverage from a fire
protection jurisdiction under a voluntary, |
| 13 | | negotiated fee basis.

| 14 | | If a property owner of an unprotected area refuses a |
| 15 | | request for annexation for fire protection coverage or coverage |
| 16 | | on a fee basis by all willing practicable speed fire protection |
| 17 | | jurisdictions near such area, then the State Fire Marshal shall |
| 18 | | assign the unprotected area coverage pursuant to Section 4 of |
| 19 | | this Act. |
