Amends the Election Code. Provides that no patient who has resided for less than 180 days in any hospital or mental institution (rather than no patient of any hospital or mental institution) in the State shall by virtue of his or her abode at the hospital be deemed a resident or legal voter in an election district in which the hospital or mental institution is situated. Effective immediately.

2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
3 | | represented in the General Assembly:
|
4 | | Section 5. The Election Code is amended by changing Section |
5 | | 3-4 as follows:
|
6 | | (10 ILCS 5/3-4) (from Ch. 46, par. 3-4)
|
7 | | Sec. 3-4.
No patient who has resided for less than 180 days |
8 | | in of any hospital or mental institution in this State, shall |
9 | | by
virtue of his abode at such hospital or mental institution |
10 | | be deemed a
resident or legal voter in the town, city, village |
11 | | or election district or
precinct in which such hospital or |
12 | | mental institution may be situated; but
every such person shall |
13 | | be deemed a resident of the town, city, village or
election |
14 | | district or precinct in which he resided next prior to becoming |
15 | | a
patient of such hospital or mental institution. However, the |
16 | | term "hospital"
does not include skilled nursing facilities.
