SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, It is highly fitting that the Illinois General 
3Assembly pays honor and respect to the truly great individuals 
4who have served our country and, in doing so, have made the 
5ultimate sacrifice for our nation; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Marine Lance Cpl. Drew M. Uhles of DuQuoin died 
7from injuries received due to enemy action in Al Anbar 
8Province, Iraq on September 15, 2004 and subsequently was 
9awarded the Purple Heart; and
 
10    WHEREAS, LCpl. Uhles was assigned to 1st Battalion, 7th 
11Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary 
12Force, Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center, Twentynine 
13Palms, California; and
 
14    WHEREAS, LCpl. Uhles received numerous awards during his 
15exemplary service to our nation, including the Combat Action 
16Ribbon, the Rifle Marksman Badge, the Presidential Unit 
17Citation, the Good Conduct Award, the National Defense Service 
18Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, and 
19two Sea Service Deployment Ribbons; therefore, be it
 
20    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL 
21ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE HOUSE OF

1REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING HEREIN, that we designate the 
2section of Route 51 that runs through St. Johns as the "LCpl. 
3Drew M. Uhles Memorial Highway"; and be it further
 
4    RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Transportation 
5is requested to erect at suitable locations, consistent with 
6State and federal regulations, appropriate plaques or signs 
7giving notice of the name "LCpl. Drew M. Uhles Memorial 
8Highway"; and be it further
 
9    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be 
10presented to the family of LCpl. Uhles, the Mayor of St. Johns, 
11and the Secretary of the Illinois Department of 
12Transportation.
