| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION | ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, In Illinois, there are more than 2,400 leased | ||||||
| 3 | warehouses that are at least 100,000 square feet, covering a | ||||||
| 4 | collective 632 million square feet; and | ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, At least two million Illinoisans live within half | ||||||
| 6 | a mile of a warehouse; and | ||||||
| 7 | WHEREAS, Having the clean energy infrastructure and | ||||||
| 8 | resources for the charging of medium and heavy-duty electric | ||||||
| 9 | vehicles will be required to meet climate targets and improve | ||||||
| 10 | the air quality of areas with a large warehouse burden; and | ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, Solar panels reduce greenhouse gas emissions and | ||||||
| 12 | reliance on fossil fuels; and | ||||||
| 13 | WHEREAS, Warehouses have large, flat roofs, making them | ||||||
| 14 | ideal for solar panel installation; and | ||||||
| 15 | WHEREAS, By utilizing the rooftops of warehouses, the | ||||||
| 16 | demand for converting prime farmland into solar farms will be | ||||||
| 17 | reduced; and | ||||||
| 18 | WHEREAS, Warehouse rooftop solar panels will help | ||||||
| 19 | businesses save on energy costs, create jobs in the solar | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | industry, and lower maintenance costs compared to alternative | ||||||
| 2 | placements; therefore, be it | ||||||
| 3 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 4 | HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 5 | we urge warehouse owners to install rooftop solar panels on | ||||||
| 6 | their properties and take advantage of any applicable | ||||||
| 7 | incentives to expedite the process. | ||||||
