| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION | ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives wish to commend Dr. Bryan Renfro for his | ||||||
| 4 | dedicated service on the occasion of his departure as | ||||||
| 5 | president of John Wood Community College (JWCC); and | ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Dr. Renfro was appointed the institution's | ||||||
| 7 | seventh president by the JWCC Board of Trustees on October 26, | ||||||
| 8 | 2022, officially beginning his tenure on December 31, 2022; | ||||||
| 9 | and | ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, During his presidency, Dr. Renfro provided | ||||||
| 11 | visionary leadership and advanced transformative initiatives | ||||||
| 12 | that strengthened JWCC's mission, community partnerships, and | ||||||
| 13 | national reputation; and | ||||||
| 14 | WHEREAS, Dr. Renfro led the launch of JWCC's first | ||||||
| 15 | Federation for Advanced Manufacturing Education (FAME) | ||||||
| 16 | program, expanding hands-on workforce training opportunities | ||||||
| 17 | and forging important industry collaborations in the region; | ||||||
| 18 | and | ||||||
| 19 | WHEREAS, Dr. Renfro spearheaded the Rural Guided Pathways | ||||||
| 20 | initiative, which was aimed at improving access to education, | ||||||
| 21 | increasing student retention, and boosting completion rates | ||||||

| |||||||
| 1 | among students in underserved rural areas; and | ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, Dr. Renfro championed the Caring Campus | ||||||
| 3 | initiative, fostering a culture of engagement and belonging | ||||||
| 4 | that prioritized student well-being and strengthened | ||||||
| 5 | connections between students, faculty, and staff; and | ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Under Dr. Renfro's guidance, JWCC was named one | ||||||
| 7 | of the top 150 community colleges in the nation by the | ||||||
| 8 | prestigious Aspen Institute, a recognition of excellence in | ||||||
| 9 | student outcomes, learning, and institutional performance; and | ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, Dr. Renfro's leadership has left a lasting legacy | ||||||
| 11 | at JWCC, enhancing its academic reputation, strengthening | ||||||
| 12 | workforce pathways, and improving student success across its | ||||||
| 13 | district; and | ||||||
| 14 | WHEREAS, Dr. Renfro will conclude his tenure at JWCC on | ||||||
| 15 | June 30, 2025; therefore, be it | ||||||
| 16 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 17 | HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 18 | we commend Bryan Renfro, Ph.D. for his outstanding leadership | ||||||
| 19 | and service as president of John Wood Community College, and | ||||||
| 20 | we wish him continued success in his future endeavors; and be | ||||||
| 21 | it further | ||||||
