HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate the Illinois Environmental Council (IEC) and its more than 130 affiliate members on the organization's 50th anniversary; and

WHEREAS, IEC was established in 1975 and has operated continuously to advance equitable public policies that ensure a healthy environment across Illinois over the last five decades; and

WHEREAS, Every Illinoisan has benefited greatly from the environmental protections that IEC, its members, and volunteers have secured; and

WHEREAS, IEC, its members, and its volunteers have generously shared with the members of this body policy and scientific expertise on a vast array of important environmental issues, including clean water, clean energy, conservation, sustainable agriculture, clean transportation, waste reduction, and environmental justice; and

WHEREAS, IEC has been the key stakeholder in the formation and convening of the Illinois Legislative Green Caucus and the Illinois Legislative Outdoor Caucus; and

WHEREAS, IEC has organized annual opportunities at the State Capitol during each regular legislative session for legislators to connect with their constituents and learn about the environmental issues most important to them; and

WHEREAS, The importance of IEC's ongoing work only grows as scientists predict serious global and local impacts of our changing climate and increasingly extreme weather events; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the Illinois Environmental Council and its more than 130 affiliate members on the organization's 50th anniversary; and be it further

RESOLVED, That we thank IEC affiliate members, staff, and volunteers over the years for their collective efforts to safeguard Illinois, its people, its plants and animals, and the natural systems on which all life depends by building power for people and the environment; and be it further

RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be presented to Executive Director Jennifer Walling, board presidents Rev. Brian Sauder and Delmar Gillus, and IEC as an expression of our esteem and respect.
