| 1 | SENATE RESOLUTION | ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, The State of Illinois has consistently | ||||||
| 3 | demonstrated a deep commitment to the promotion of animal | ||||||
| 4 | welfare; and | ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Steer or bovine tailing is a specific rodeo event | ||||||
| 6 | where a rider on horseback chases down a running steer, bull, | ||||||
| 7 | or calf and grabs onto the animal's tail; the rider then wraps | ||||||
| 8 | the tail around his leg, slamming the animal to the ground; and | ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, Acts of bovine tailing can cause significant | ||||||
| 10 | injuries to the animals involved; and | ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, Acts of bovine tailing in Illinois have been | ||||||
| 12 | particularly prevalent; and | ||||||
| 13 | WHEREAS, Bovine tailing is replaceable as a rodeo event, | ||||||
| 14 | and its continued practice constitutes animal abuse; | ||||||
| 15 | therefore, be it | ||||||
| 16 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL | ||||||
| 17 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we declare April 23, | ||||||
| 18 | 2026 as Animal Welfare Day in the State of Illinois to reflect | ||||||
| 19 | on the importance of just and humane treatment of animals; and | ||||||
| 20 | be it further | ||||||

| 1 | RESOLVED, That we discourage all acts of bovine tailing | ||||||
| 2 | and its associated harms. | ||||||
